What is FUE?
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is a cutting-edge hair restoration technique that involves extracting individual hair follicles from areas of the body where hair growth is abundant, such as the back of the head, chest, or back, and transplanting them to thinning or balding areas of the scalp. Unlike traditional hair transplant methods, FUE does not require a scalpel or stitches, resulting in no visible scars and a more natural-looking outcome.
How Does the FUE Procedure Look at Dr. Gupta’s Aesthetics?
- Extraction: Healthy hair follicles are carefully extracted one by one from donor areas using a specialized micro-punch tool. This minimally invasive process ensures that no large incisions or stitches are needed.
- Preparation: The extracted follicles are then prepared for transplantation. Each follicle is meticulously handled to ensure its viability and optimal placement.
- Transplantation: The prepared follicles are implanted into the thinning or balding areas of the scalp using precise techniques to ensure natural hair growth patterns and density.
Recovery and Post-Operative Care for FUE
- Initial Recovery: After the procedure, antibiotics and mild pain medications are prescribed to minimize discomfort and reduce swelling. You can resume shampooing your hair with a mild shampoo starting on the third day after surgery.
- Hair Shedding and Growth: It’s normal for the transplanted hair to shed within 3-6 weeks following the surgery. This is a temporary phase, and new hair growth will typically resume after an additional 5-6 weeks. To enhance the results and support healthy hair growth, patients are encouraged to continue a medicinal treatment protocol that helps prevent further hair miniaturization and shedding.
Follow-Up Procedures for FUETouch-Ups:
A follow-up “touch-up” procedure may be recommended approximately 6-8 months after the initial surgery to refine results and increase hair density if needed. This ensures the most natural and aesthetically pleasing outcome.
